Tile selections

This is our Tile Selections post. The Tile meeting was by far the easiest of any of our appointments. We went there previously twice to see the range and get an idea of what we wanted. The place is tiny and their range even smaller. Their 'entertainment' room for kiddies was stuffy and we had to jar the door open with a chair. 

Anyway, the tile consultant seemed pretty experienced, especially with the speed she was mapping out all the tile zones in their mark up software. She suggested we go for a simple look to match our Espresso Ligna cabinets. My wife agreed and picked these Belgium Stone Diamond 600x300 tiles for walls and floors. 


We also picked a darker brown Belgium Stone Lavagna Natural 600x300 tile to work as a feature wall for each bathroom.   

I wasn't a big fan of 'simple' and luckily my wife was clever to suggest that we could use my selected tile just for the Master Ensuite... I chose the Pearl Ivory Polished 600x600


Tiles were much more expensive than I thought. Originally, in our initial visits, we were told these were $55 per square meter. During the actual consultation we were advised the $55 is the upgrade price for areas that already have tiles. If you want to use these tiles in more areas (eg. a full wall tiling where there were no tiles as standard), the price goes up to ~$100 (can't remember exactly) per square meter. We promptly removed wall tiling from some of our walls where originally we wanted full wall tiling in all bathrooms.

    Hi Jerry,

    Like the look of those tiles, I was told the PD Tiles Boutique lists the prices of the tiles including labour costs, that $55 per square metre seems like just for tiles, how much were the labour costs quoted?

      Hi Danny, the costs are inclusive of labour. Bear in mind though that the standard base price of the house already included tiling so the $55 is purely the additional cost of the tile compared to the standard one.

      Hi Jerry, the base price of the house includes wet area tiles (presumably 400 x 400 ceramic), did you include the Prestige Flooring Pack in your contract? I am currently weighing up doing tiling and carpets (aside from the mandatory wet areas) after handover vs getting the Prestige Flooring Pack and upgrading the tiles and carpets.

      Hi Danny, We took the flooring pack and have the standard cat 2 carpets and bolero floorboards. We thought it was less hassle doing it with PD and it is also included in the building warranty

Austral Hawthorn Bricks

Here's some photos of our Hawthorn bricks. These were category 4 upgrade and costs ~$5k. The off white mortar was another $1k on top. We chose to have the rolled joints instead of a flush finish. I think the off white mortar together with the rolled joints make the bricks stand out better and have been well worth the money.

External Elevation Drawings

These are the elevation drawings on how our house will look like. Wish they did a 3D model but this will suffice. This is our version of the Chatsworth facade. Notice the archway has been straightened to be more contemporary looking. One of our windows needs to be obscured. We've selected SatinLite finish instead of Spotswood glazing. The top of the balcony should be brick too so I've asked them to update it as a Post Contract Variation (even though I've picked it up before contract signing).  There's our extra laundry window and extended alfresco at the back Alfresco spanning the width of the house. Extra roller door to the back of the garage so we can drive straight through.  There's the big 3.6m feature window.  The maximum height they could do was 1.5m which is why it looks so short.
