Plastered!

Plastering pretty much happened straight after lockup. In fact it was booked for the day of lockup but the plasterers didn't show up. That's pretty good of Porter Davis to just get on with the show without waiting for the invoice or my payment. As it turns out, the guys rocked up for work on the Sunday 28th September and the walls were fully plastered by Tuesday.

Here's a tour of my plastered house! It's a pretty surreal experience to see the realisation of your 2D plans come to life.

Starting with the entrance, this is the view from the front door. Stairs, powder room, study to the left, the lounge to the right

Here's the reverse shot - the entrance looking from the hallway

Panning slightly to the left, here's the lounge with the feature columns that are not so feature at the moment. I've double checked with the supervisor to make sure they are, in fact, meant to be decorative feature columns. He has confirmed that the decorative pieces will be delivered and installed at a later point.

View from inside the lounge looking towards where the stairs will be

Moving right along to the dining room, here's the wall and feature void we added so that the pillar in the middle isn't so obnoxious. Looking like a pretty good decision now!

Here's that wall and also our massively long picture window, looking from the kitchen corner

Here's a panoramic shot from the back, looking at the kitchen on the right and dining and family room on the left. The piping sticking out of the ground is where the kitchen island will be.
Stepping from the kitchen to the store room and laundry... here you can see that very average height garage access door. I will get over it soon hopefully.

Moving on upstairs, here's the Rumpus!

Here is the Master Bedroom with enclosed rear option and dividing wall added. Not too sure about this wall at this stage. Hopefully will look better with plantation shutters added and some furniture

The Master Ensuite windows. A freestanding bath will go here.

This is the shared bathroom window. It is tiny as, but should be good enough light for a bathroom

Here's the manhole. We originally planned for it to be outside bedroom 3 but due to the positioning of the heating unit and tubing, they had to move it to the walk in robe of bedroom 4. My rationale for moving it out of the robes was that I didn't want all the dust / dirt to get over the clothes when it got used. The flip side is that, with this hidden in the robes, it is not noticeable. Given this access will be hardly used, I've let it pass as is.

And finally, here's a shot of the decorative cornices to the living areas.

I pretty rapt with how it is coming together. Next up is the doors and cabinetry. Bring it on! :)

  1. Hi Jerry,
Have started watching your Blog with great interest. We are about to commence our own PD build. I look with great interest at what looks like might be a massive picture window. Interested to understand the dimensions and cost and if it was Stegbar or other? Thanks in advance, any help and information you might share would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the blog, great work.
    Best Regards

    1. Thanks Rodney! Dimensions of all my windows are in my Floor Plan post (http://prestigebuild.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/my-customised-marriot-floorplan.html)

The picture window is 1500 high by 3600 wide. Roughly ~$3500 in lieu of 2 standard windows.

According to PD, it was apparently the widest Stegbar goes and for that width and they could only do 1500 high. The thing to note is that because of the size, Stegbar actually classify this as a Commercial window. This means the window isn't delivered with the glass. The glass is actually glazed on site later after installation. I confirmed with Stegbar that with Commercial windows, they can do 'any' size. Imagine shopfront windows. It is all custom sizing. I didn't push PD on this though as I guess they would just end up charging me even more what is already a very pricey window.

Interior Paint - Wattyl Winter Mushroom

Painting is complete. We've gone for the grey finish to the walls. Here's how the Winter Mushroom looks. Originally we thought of doing white for the architraves and doors but got convinced by the colour consultant to use the same paint all round. Was a bit worried at first but it has come off nicely.

Cedar Plank Palandri Carpets Laid

Carpets were laid just before Christmas except for the master bedroom which was getting its squeaks fixed .  We picked the Palandri Category 2 carpets in Cedar Plank colour. Nothing too fancy as Category 2 was the included freebie and we didn't want to pay the Porter Davis premium for upgrades. Figured when it's better to let the kids wear out this one and replace it in a few years time at a much cheaper cost per square metre. Here's a roll of carpet. The most excited I've ever been to see a roll of carpet :)

PCI Checklist

My Practical Completion Inspection is on in about 12 hours time! Here's a comprehensive checklist I've copied from the Homeone forums.
